The main task of our skin is to protect our body from external factors, light, dust and various living organisms. Our upper skin acts as an uninterrupted barrier between the outside world and our body. In case of contact of external factors with the body, various allergic reactions and infections may develop. In the lesioned areas of psoriasis patients, this barrier is impaired and cannot perform its main function.

Here, if excessive cream and oil are applied to the lesioned areas, the skin cannot do its job because the barrier structure is broken. The wounds redden, swell, and the patient's itching increases greatly. When you look at the lesions, you will see the middle of the lesion swollen compared to the edges, dark red in color and itching and nail marks on the top and sides of the wounds. This patient misused the skin care creams and oils he used. He caused great damage to himself and his lesions. As a result of using the wrong cream, psoriasis lesions rapidly enlarge and coalesce in every patient. It is an irritable condition that continues with itching at night.

It should not be forgotten that in a healing lesion, the lesions are light pink, without itching and not swollen in the middle, but pits and even normal healthy skin should be observed. The person's lesions heal from the middle to the edge. Well then, Dr. Answering the question of what amount and how should we apply the skin care creams that we need to use. Mehmet İlteber Bahadır said that the patient should take a cream that is of sufficient consistency for an arm, on his fingertips, and never directly apply it to the lesion, but to the top of the lesions by spreading it from the healthy skin from 5-10 cm from the wound's edge!!!

I teach this driving technique to every patient who comes to our clinic individually. This driving technique is not mentioned to patients in any clinic. No matter what skin care cream or oil the person applies. If the patient pours the cream into the palm of his hand and rubs it directly on the lesions or cracks, the cream he uses will pass from the upper skin epidermis to the lower skin, that is, to the area where the blood vessels are. It causes the patient's lesions to enlarge and increase with exacerbation, dark redness, swelling and itching. No matter what cream (except cortisone creams), skin care creams should never be used in this way.

The use of the cream should be applied to the injured area by applying it to the intact skin, from a distance of 5-10 cm from the wound, and then spreading it from the intact skin. In this way, the wounds do not swell when used. You moisturize the epidermis, the upper skin that you need to moisturize. Stating that creams and oils will not pass to the area where the blood vessels are called the lower skin, Dr. Mehmet İlteber Bahadır said: It should not be forgotten that psoriasis lesions should be light pink with sunken middle and thicker edges and without itching.

Unfortunately, the simple technique I described above is not explained to patients anywhere. Almost all of the patients apply the creams they use directly to the palm of their hands and rub them directly on the lesions. Unfortunately, this is the biggest mistake that every psoriasis patient makes today. Stating that the use of this type of cream causes the wounds to grow, coalesce and increase, Dr. Mehmet İlteber Bahadır continued as follows. However, in the technique I described, that is, when a small amount of cream is applied from the healthy skin to the wounds by starting from an average of 5-10 cm from the wound, the creams do not pass to the lower skin. The cream does not harm the area where the blood vessels are located. No allergic reaction occurs. The patient is relieved after using the right cream. He says that the itching has disappeared, the cracking has decreased and the crusting has disappeared.

As I always say, whether the treatment takes place in our clinic or not, using the wrong amount and technique of cream increases psoriasis. The right cream, the right amount and the right technique are indispensable in the treatment of this disease.
